A leading alternative to Long-Term Care Insurance (more affordable)
No age limits, purchase BEFORE you need homecare at current rates. Nationwide options
Private care in your home, delay or avoid transitions to assisted living or nursing home settings
Life insurance or annuities can provide financial support when you are in need of LTC support.
These tools can be used when Medicaid planning and accessing community resources in support of your LTC needs.
Policies are varied and you choose how much coverage you can afford.
Typically claims are activated when help with two ADLs is required.
You do not need to be elderly to need LTC support. Auto accidents, a fall or medical issues can interfere with being able to care for oneself.
The majority of people want to choose this option. There are pros and cons to this.
When people think of this option, it is with the abilities they have currently. They are able to perform IADLs and ADLs without assistance. Or, they want someone to come and go as they need them, like "I Dream of Jeannie", just pop in when I need something and pop back out. It does not work that way so when thinking of this option there are considerations that need to be reviewed.
There needs to be someone to manage the staff and ensure services are on track. You cannot simply have staff show up and think it's all done.
Transitioning support is a service we provide. We know the facilities, their "feel" and once we do an assessment we will know you and matchmaking begins.
There are a variety of facilities, they offer different levels of care, even within the same facility.
These are a great alternative to staying at home, typically run a little cheaper than 24x7 care at home.
Facilities provide for socialization and they run the course from 5 or 6 bed to 150 bed units. Each has "feel" to it.
You have the ability to live like you want: friendly and involved in all activities or private or somewhere in between.
Most people go too long before bringing in help.
IADL support is usually needed before ADL support but not always. It depends on the situation.
Using Case Management (CM) can fill-the-gaps to keep one independent. Some examples:
* help is needed with driving/shopping, cooking and bathing
* maybe financial affairs, doctor visits and transferring/ambulating
* maybe ADLs are all good but IADLs are where the help is needed
Our CM services fill these gaps with weekly, bi-weekly or monthly visits.
IADLs: These are Independent Activities of Daily Living
Typically, long-term care insurance is not triggered when assistance is needed with these activities.
* Home upkeep and management
* Meal preparation, cooking, and clean-up (no microwave meals)
* Supervise life activities and support staff
* Computer, and phone communications with service providers and others
* Financial management (knowing where the money goes, reconciling accounts, not putting it all on autopay and letting it ride)
* Healthcare management, doctors, medication, tests
* Shopping, entertainment, religious services, and the like.
ADLs: These are Activities of Daily Living
Typically, long-term care insurance is triggered when assistance is needed with two or more of these activities.
* Ambulating, Transferring
* Dressing, picking out appropriate clothing, and dressing oneself
* Toileting, lack of control of bladder and/or bowels, assistance when using the toilet, and cleaning up afterward
* Eating, needs reminding to eat and/or help with using utensils
* Grooming, personal hygiene tasks like brushing teeth, bathing, shaving, hair, and nail care
